Common Conditions We Treat

Acne

The most common skin condition in the United States. Treatments are becoming more effective every day. Acne has no age restrictions, although most common in puberty. It usually affects the face, neck, and back.

Actinic Keratosis

The rough, scaly patch on the skin develops from years of sun exposure. It’s often found on the face, lips, ears, forearms, scalp, neck, or back of the hands. They are not cancerous, but a small fraction of cases develop into skin cancer.

Atypical Moles

These are moles that are unusual-looking and have irregular features. Most of them are benign, but they need to be assessed because the presence could indicate melanoma, a dangerous skin cancer.

Eczema

Also called atopic dermatitis. It is characterized by red, inflamed, and itchy patches of skin, sometimes appearing as a rash. There are several different types that vary in severity.

Hives

Also known as urticaria. They are usually pink or red and sometimes sting or hurt. They can itch, and they have generally raised welts. Usually, they’re caused by an allergic reaction.

Insect Bites

Stings and bites from insects are common and often result in redness or swelling on the injured area of the skin. It can sometimes be life-threatening. 

Melasma/Sunspots

Another common condition from too much exposure to the sun. It mainly affects the forehead, cheeks, nose, and upper lip. The result is brown or gray-brown spots on the skin, which are usually on the face. More common in women.

Mole Evaluation

It is essential to get any moles evaluated if they appear to have changed color, shape, or are painful. Also, if they bleed, ooze, itch, or become scaly.

Nail Fungus

A common condition that begins with a yellow or white spot(s) under the tip of fingers or toenails. As the fungus deepens, the nail and nailbed will discolor, thicken, and crumble at the edge. It can be painful.

Poison Ivy

Exposure to Poison Ivy appears as streaks of red on the skin, as well as raised blisters. The plant oil can linger on the skin and fabric and will spread on the skin if contact remains. It is itchy and can be painful. 

Psoriasis

A skin disorder that causes skin cells to increase up to 10 times the normal rate. It causes the skin to build up into bumpy, red patches covered in white scales. They can be anywhere on the body, but most commonly on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. It is thought to be an immune system disorder.

Rosacea

Common skin condition causing visible redness and blood vessels the face and cheeks. Sometimes, small, red pus-filled bumps are produced. It may flair up for weeks and retreat for months at a time. Most common in middle-aged women with fair skin.

Skin Allergies

Commonly presents with red patches or bumps and itchy skin. Can be caused by many things and can be challenging to diagnose

Skin Cancer

The abnormal growth of skin cells. It is most common with skin exposed to the sun. Three major types of skin cancer—basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. 

Skin Infections

Skin itself can become infected. There is a wide variety of causes, from mild to severe. There are four types—bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic.

Skin Rashes

Can occur from various factors, including infections, heat, allergens, immune disorders, and even medications. They present in patches of red, itchy skin and can sometimes cause pain.

Spider Veins

Also called Varicose veins. They are small, damaged veins that can appear prominently on the surface of the face or legs. They can be painful but are more commonly not. They can be blue or purple and are in the form of thin webs, lines, and branches.

Warts

Typically, rough, hard growths similar in color to the rest of the skin. They usually don’t result in other symptoms, except when on the bottom of the feet, where they may be painful. Most commonly on the hands and feet, but they can also appear on the body in other places.
